Two years ago, I argued Malta needed to shift its tourism strategy—chasing quality over volume. The numbers since tell a mixed story: spend per capita is climbing, but still hasn't caught up to pre-pandemic levels, and a booming, younger crowd of visitors may be part of why. Meanwhile, inbound tourism has surged 165% in a decade, and total expenditure has nearly tripled. So before the daily frustrations take over—the traffic, the noise, the congestion—it's worth asking: are we genuinely worse off, or just privileged enough to afford to moan?
