2025 - Forced to bend, refused to break

In 2025, on a professional level, it was like any other year, with its highs and lows. Moments that, even if behind all the glamour, make you feel proud of the achievement and moments that you feel overwhelmed and confused. My philosophy is to work in silence and let the results make the noise. Every leader has their own traits, shaped by their personality.

At the end of the year, I was faced with one of the most complex decisions. Not because I had the power to change the situation, but because the choice was between walking the talk and resisting change.

As a leader, I focus on personal development. Wherever I worked, I have always been clear with the teams: we are here, together, to get the jobs done, but I am here for your personal development as well. The shocking message to everyone who works with me, that might seem a bit odd is always straightforward: if you are presented with an opportunity elsewhere, do not be afraid to share it, I am here to help you, and yes, if such an opportunity is for your own good, I will be the one to help you take such a step.

Let’s face it, at times, you can offer a remedy by tweaking the financial package or offering something different to the individual so they reignite their motivation and stay. However, there are instances in which it will be clear that a person has gained knowledge from their current position and is ready to step up in their career. The latter is a situation I encountered some weeks ago, and, to top it all, I not only lost a valued person but also a personal friend who had been by my side for 20 years.

I had a choice: either try to convince the person to stay, or understand that this is the best way forward, practice what I believe in, be proud of the achievements we've made together, and offer guidance and support.

It is not easy to disconnect, even on a professional level, but I am at peace, knowing that the time we have spent together has laid a solid foundation on which this colleague can build and be successful.

Without a shadow of a doubt, it is painful, sad and at times you feel helpless.

Even in such circumstances, the mindset of a leader should be to:

Bond, Lead, Respect, Offer personal growth, Be honest, Do not fall into and egoistic trap, Be realistic and Celebrate Succsess
